Students

At General Vanie r Public School student leadership is valued and celebrated. Student initiative is encouraged throughout the year, in planning spirit days, participating in assemblies and morning announcements, and in raising funds for the needy. Students participate in EarthCARE audits to help us take better care of our school and global environment. Student leaders are recognized and applauded throughout the year at assemblies and in our daily announcements.

Staff

The staff at General Vanier School exemplifies life-long learning and a collaborative culture, both necessary components of a professional learning community. Staff members hold a variety of professional qualifications including Bachelors/Honors degrees in Arts and Education, Early Childhood Educator Diplomas, English, Arts, Classical Studies, History, Linguistics, Sociology, Psychology, and Music, as well as, additional qualifications in ESL, French, Special Education, Physical Education, and Reading. Office and facility staff has extensive training in Office Practices, Maintenance, and Health and Safety. Each year all staff participates in professional development through:

• Staff moderation of student work and design of lessons along with our Coach

• Attendance at Board-sponsored Networks and Leadership Initiatives

• Participation in professional development workshops and conferences

• Participation on Board and school committees

• Staff leadership is recognized in our school newsletter, school announcements, letters of thanks, Staff Appraisals, Principal’s Reports to School Council and at assemblies.

Parents/Guardians/Volunteers

Our volunteers contribute hundreds of hours per year of support for the benefit of students in our school. Our dedicated school council meets monthly and contributes generously in supporting special events and enhanced programming such as drama performances and Scientists in the School. As invaluable partners, we thank our parents and volunteers on an on-going basis, and acknowledge their dedication through school announcements, our principal’s report to school council, school newsletters, and our annual volunteer appreciation breakfast.
