Dear families,

Greetings from your very own MLO!

Join us on Saturday, November 4, 2023, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for the OCDSB Family Conference at Brookfield High School. It is organized by OCDSB's Parent Involvement Committee (PIC) and Family and Community Engagement (FACE). This year’s theme is Educate, Engage, Empower - Enhancing Learning Together.

We sincerely encourage our newcomer parents, caregivers and students to join this free, in-person event to get informed, ask questions and build connections! Don't get left out and Register Now!

It will feature Ontario’s first Poet Laureate, noted author, inspirational speaker, arts educator, and community leader Randell Adjei as the keynote speaker. There will also be multiple expert-led workshops with some offered in multiple languages (in Somali, Arabic and Pashto) and with sign language support.

🌟Plus, you will also get to meet your MLOs!🌟

At this event, our team of MLOs (Multicultural Liaison Officers) from OCISO will be providing attendees with settlement information at our own workshop and language interpretation for other workshops of the day.

Come learn about how we support newcomers adapting to the Ontario education system by addressing school-related barriers and providing services in 20 different languages. Explore MLOs' wide range of specific services and supports available about life in Canada and services available, language and cultural interpretation, conflict resolution, advocacy, and building community connections. MLOs will also share about our Youth program at OCISO - YOCISO, which works to set newcomer students up for success by promoting essential settlement skills and positive mindsets.
